Abdelbaset Ali Mohmed Al Megrahi was convicted before the High Court of Justiciary sitting in the Netherlands of the murder of 270 people.

Mr Megrahi contends that he has been the victim of a miscarriage of justice.

His case was referred back to the Court of Criminal Appeal by the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission on 27th June 2007.

He abandoned his appeal against conviction and sentence, with leave of the Court, on 18 August 2009.

The purpose of this website is to explain the basis of his challenge to that conviction.

Initially, he intends to publish those parts of his Grounds of Appeal which were argued before the Court between 28 April and 19 May 2009.

Thereafter, he will publish the Grounds of Appeal which were due to be the subject of argument before the Court, commencing on 2nd November 2009.

It has recently been wrongly reported, that Mr Al-Megrahi refused to give his consent for the Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission to release documents relating to him, referred to in the Commission’s Statement of Reasons on his case, and its appendices, that he and his lawyers provided, either directly or indirectly, to the Commission.

The true position is that Mr Al Megrahi, through his Libyan Lawyer, made it clear to the Commission in a meeting on April 12th 2010 that he was happy for the documents to be released, providing all the official bodies that provided documents to the Commission agreed to the release of all of those documents. These bodies include the police, the Crown Office, the Foreign Office, and the intelligence service, or services, which provided the secret documents referred to in Chapter 25 sources of the Statement of Reasons.

Mr Al Megrahi’s position has always been, and remains, that all information relating to the case should be made public.

Abdelbaset Ali Al-Megrahi was convicted of the Lockerbie bombing in 2001, and was released in 2009 on the grounds of ill health under the stipulation that he abandoned his appeal.

The evidence with which Mr. Megrahi was convicted was highly dubious.
A key witness, who identified Mr. Megrahi, was paid $2 million, to give evidence, which blatantly compromises their testimony.
The three forensic experts who identified a Libyan circuit board, supposedly used in the bomb, have serious questions hanging over both, the given evidence and also their professional integrity. Two of the prosecution experts, Thomas Hayes and Alan Feraday had been involved in dubious evidence in the past to ensure a wrongful conviction,

including in the Maguire Seven inquiry (The Guildford pub bombings of 5 October 1974)

and the case of Danny McNamee. (The "Hyde Park bomber" Danny McNamee was convicted in London on 27 October 1987 of conspiracy to cause explosions. An appeal was dismissed in January 1991...

Thomas Thurman, the U.S expert and Alan Ferady are prohibited from giving evidence in US and UK courts respectively, and as such anything they put forward is suspect at best. Mr. Megrahi died in Libya.
